An area of restored tropical rainforest near the city of Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. It’s created by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) The local population around the area is a crucial part of the project. Planted around the perimeter of the rainforest is a belt of sugar palm trees. This serves both as a protective barrier against fires and as a source of income for over 650 families. Samboja Lestari enjoys the support of the local people through its creation of employment such as in the fire protection program and maintaining the security of drinking water resources.
Upon arrival at the Balikpapan Airport, meet and great with your guide then transfer to Samboja Lestari. On arrival check in Samboja Lodge and enjoy your lunch at the terrace restaurant. Here we can take a look a beautiful view of the park. A local guide will conduct a briefing on the up coming activities. Short rest and fresh up then depart for the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in time for the afternoon feeding session at 15:00. Then head to the Sun Bear Conservation Centre nearby.
Walk back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Breakfast at Samboja Lodge then guided walks along the nearby Nature trail follows a forest path from the Samboja Lodge, In order to ensure optimum wildlife viewing, the day begins at 07.30 am. Then visit The Fire Tower and Bosf Office Tower to see around the Park from the height. Afterwards transfer to Bukit Bangkirai, Walk the jungle canopy walk of Bukit Bankirai. The Canopy Walkway is about 30 meters high providing great opportunities for nature watching and fantastic views over the rainforest. Spend time walking along some of the many nature trails before returning to the lodge for lunch.
Afternoon visit Black River. Take a two-hour boat journey across the Black River and enjoy the scenes of local villages and lush mangrove forest to search for wildlife -most notably the proboscis monkeys which are native to Borneo. Other fauna likely to be spotted in the river includes monitor lizard and bird species.
Back to Samboja Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast at Hotel then transfer to Balikpapan Airport for your next destination.
